Many people are asking us if now is the time to sell their gold.
With the strong US Dollar amid record high gold prices, as well as central banks throughout the world buying gold in record amounts, the trend looks to be a rising gold market. But trends are never guarantees.
For people that have plans on what to do with the revenue from selling their old gold coins or jewelry, the time for them is now.
For those trying to " time " the markets to sell at the highest price, I might not be the person to ask. Over the years when I've tried to time the markets, I've lost FAR more often than I won. So I don't recommend trying to time the market. Instead, try and select a time that would benefit you the most-vacation, retirement, purchase a house, etc.
Another thing to consider is how often the piece is worn. If there are pieces of gold jewelry that have sat in your box unworn for many years, maybe selling or redesign is for you.
As far as redesign or modification goes, we do this in our shop all of the time. Quite often we will have someone come in with their ring they wish to redesign and pay with old broken gold chains they have had sitting around for years.
Maybe a family vacation? An opportunity to create memorable moments lasting a lifetime. Maybe helping a child or grandchild with Paying for college? Or maybe paying off debts that have felt like 100 pound weights on your back?
Whatever else can be done with the proceeds from selling the old jewelry, ask yourself, " how big of a difference will this make ?" If the answer is a big difference, or if that vacation will be just what the family needs, or if you can pay for a childs college, or if buying that roof over your head would help life feel more stable, then it might be a good time for you to sell some of those old pieces.
