Spring is here. Hooray!! Beautiful weather....but not too hot.
We also have a couple of reasons for celebration in this season.
Passover,
We celebrate Passover to remember the deliverance of the Israelites from over 400 years of slavery in the land of Egypt. This occasion also recognizes Israel and God's protest against unrightteousness-both individual and national. Passover should also be a reminder that God hears and answers the cries of His people-even if we don't think that He is.
Passover is celebrated by reading from a text called The Haggadah ( you can also read from the Bible book of Exodus chapters 11 through 15 ).
This is where God delivers the Israelites from slavery while causing the last plague fall on the Egyptian people-the death of all the firstborn.
Then we read of God parting the Red Sea for the Israelites.....then closing it right up when the Egyptian army thought that they were going to catch the Israelites.
This is our opportunity to confess, experience, and thank God for our freedom.
Easter ( Resurrection Day ),
Easter also is a reason to celebrate freedom. It is also a time to celebrate the coming of the Messiah, as well as His victory over hell and death. Through this victory, we have the opportunity to believe in His victory. Through our faith in His resurrection, we can receive His gift of salvation, and be in God's family.
Because of the oppression of sin, God chose to send His only Son as a living sacrifice. Due to this sacrifice, we can have right standing with God the creator through the shed blood of His living sacrifice,
Like the Bible says:
For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
The late evangelist Dr. Billy Grahan once said:
God proved His love on the cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, " I love you "
" O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good: because His mercy endureth forever "
Psalms 118:1
